Building blocks

High-Level Master Planning (HLMP)

Compass makes it easy to build your facility master plan and keep it up-to-date as your environment changes.

Key areas of focus:
  • Changes in service delivery models and delivery location (e.g., siting).
  • Interdependencies between service areas as volumes change (e.g., surgical pressures on inpatient bed need).
  • Impact of high-level service delivery efficiency opportunities (e.g., OR efficiencies, acute and ALC length of stay efficiencies).
Targeted outcomes:
  • Updated high-level facility master plan, including volumes, space, staffing, and estimated capital and operating investments.
  • Prioritized list of areas for further business case development and investment.
  • Easy annual refresh process to ensure master plan is up-to-date and accurate.

Master Planning for Capital Projects

Engage with stakeholders to plan for your new hospital to meet the long-term needs of your communities.

Targeted outcomes:
  • Facility master plan, including detailed volumes, space, staffing, and estimated capital and operating investments.
  • Documented plans of new service-delivery models and efficiency targets required to meet future needs.
  • Easy annual refresh process to ensure plan is up-to-date and accurate as you get closer to “breaking ground” and beyond.

Bed Mapping and Efficiency

Better align your acute care beds to your patient populations and understand your key opportunities to “save a bed”.

Targeted outcomes:
  • Shared plan of changed to facility bed maps, including estimated implementation costs.
  • Shared understanding between clinical programs of hospital bed pressures and opportunities to reduce admissions and length of stay.
  • Opportunities to “site” specific programs or patient populations to improve patient flow.
  • Easy annual refresh process to ensure plan is kept up to date as your population grows and ages.

Perioperative Service Planning

Improve service delivery of surgery and endoscopy services with a plan to improve access and reduce inefficiencies in your ORs and procedure rooms.

Targeted outcomes:
  • Shared understanding of required volumes, space and resources required to meet patient access targets.
  • Opportunities to “site” specific services or patient populations to improve quality of care.
  • Key opportunities to reduce operating room inefficiencies (e.g., late starts, turnaround times).
  • Easy annual refresh process to ensure plan is kept up to date as your population grows and ages.

How we are different

Analytics + Engagement = Action

We see effective stakeholder engagement as an essential part of the process, ensuring buy-in through to the end result to create evidence-based change. The Compass platform brings the best in healthcare analytics together with a collaborative portal to ensure stakeholders’ input is collected and actioned.

Collaboration

Smart analytics

  • Models that reflect your system’s complexity but provide results that are intuitive and explainable.
  • Self-serve models and reporting allows stakeholders and consultants to access the key results they need.
  • Well-documented methodology ensures results can be reproduced by internal Decision Support teams.

Online engagement platform

  • Web-based meeting hub for all project activities, available 24/7 to stakeholders.
  • Central repository of key documents ensures everyone knows how to access the latest, approved document.
  • Information gathering, comment and approval workflows provide easy ways for stakeholders to provide their input, even when they miss a meeting.

Easy setup, easy refreshes

  • Our processes and setup tools get projects up and running within days of data acquisition.
  • Ease of subsequent data refreshes combined with the online engagement platform makes it now viable to keep plans and outcomes fresh and current.

At Compass, we are focused with delivering great return on investment (ROI).

Our core value of “think big, stay small, don’t repeat yourself” asks us to relentlessly question how we can create exceptional client experiences while reducing non-value add efforts.

We believe our collaborative platform and analytic processes provide for exceptional client experiences, while allowing us the ability to deliver analytics at costs comparable (or cheaper!) to internal supports.

About us

Based out of Vancouver, our mission is to provide healthcare leaders the subject matter and engagement expertise coupled with the best tools and analytics needed to nimbly allocate scarce healthcare resources as effectively as possible. Our vision is to become the “Google” of Canadian healthcare planning and service delivery.

John LaRusic (he/him)

John is passionate about making analytics accessible to all healthcare operations stakeholders to support data-driven decision making.

In his previous role as Director of Development at AnalysisWorks Inc., John led development of the LightHouse software-as-a-service report offering that was adopted by all health authorities in BC, as well as the Edmonton Zone in Alberta.

John holds a Bachelor of Computer Science from the University of New Brunswick, as well as a Masters in Mathematics (Operations Research) from Simon Fraser University.

Our core values:

  • We place sustainability and focus at the front of all decision making
  • We are collaborative and trusted partners with each other and with our clients
  • We are a diverse team of unicorns (magical, but rare!) who consistently demonstrate excellence and ownership of work
  • We want to think big, stay small, and keep D.R.Y. (don’t repeat yourself)

"John has in depth knowledge of our data systems, clinical coding, and reporting in health care and thus has a breadth of expertise in our health care system to provide thoughtful and timely analysis, reporting, and written summaries. I’ve leaned on John to complete projection work to support planning projects and make sense of multiple data sets and solve complex problems and build business cases in the health care system. Given the complexities and challenges we’ve faced over the last year and a half, his skill set is proven to be helpful to solve our problems of today and tomorrow."
